Understanding the DGCA Computer Number Requirement

Before any aspiring aviator can book an examination seat for Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL), Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL), or Flight Operations Officer (FOO) papers, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) requires a unique identifier known as the Computer Number.

Issued by the Central Examination Organisation (CEO) in New Delhi through the Pariksha portal, this alphanumeric code anchors your complete regulatory flight examination record throughout your aviation career.

Phase 1: Academic Verification & Pre-requisites

Under the revised DGCA Civil Aviation Requirements (CAR), the educational threshold for obtaining a CPL Computer Number is 10+2 with Physics and Mathematics from a recognised central or state educational board. If you completed non-science schooling, an equivalent certificate from the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) is fully recognised.

  • Class 10 Pass Certificate & Marksheet: Required as proof of legal date of birth and paternal name spelling.
  • Class 12 Pass Certificate & Marksheet: Required to verify Physics and Mathematics subject pass marks.
  • Board Verification Letter: Crucial step. If your board does not have an online verification API integrated with DGCA Pariksha, a confidential physical verification letter sealed by your school board is required.
  • Aadhaar Card / Indian Passport: Must have matching name, date of birth, and permanent address.

Phase 2: Pariksha Portal Registration

Navigate to the official Pariksha portal. Register as a fresh candidate with an active personal email and mobile number. Avoid using temporary emails or third-party agent numbers, as one-time passwords (OTPs) and admit cards are delivered exclusively to these credentials.

Pro Tip from Captain David Chen: Always ensure your name on the Pariksha portal matches your Class 10 certificate to the exact letter. Discrepancies as minor as a middle initial will result in application rejection and a 45-day resubmission penalty.

Phase 3: Physical Document Dispatch

Once the online application is submitted and the PDF declaration generated, print the form on bond paper. Affix an official passport-size photograph adhering to DGCA specifications (white background, ears visible, 70% facial coverage). Get the form attested by an authorised Gazetted Officer or designated Principal, and dispatch via Speed Post to the CEO DGCA, East Block III, R.K. Puram, New Delhi 110066.
